What Can Limit The Performance Of My Broadband Connection?

Many people assume that when something does not seem quite right with their broadband service, the origin of the issue has to rest with the service provider.  That is not always the case.  Here are three factors that are can cause a high quality broadband connection to perform at less than optimum efficiency.

One of the most common reasons for a slow connection is the lack of resources on the customer end.  This is often due to a lack of sufficient random access memory or RAM on the desktop or laptop that is being used with the service.  Most broadband providers prepare guidelines that include how much memory is needed to make the most of the connection.  If your system is low on memory, which may be the reason your connection is sometimes slow or freezes for a few moments.

Another issue has to do with the type of operating system that is found on your computer.  Again, most broadband providers include information about the types of systems that must be used in order for the connection to function properly.  If you are using an older operating system, there is a good chance that your connection will never be as robust as you would like.  Installing an operating system that does work with the broadband will make a huge difference in terms of speed and reliability.

Assuming you have plenty of memory and are using an operating system recommended by your service provider, the problem may rest with registry settings or the accumulation of spyware or viruses on your hard drive.  When this is the case, installing and using virus protection software will clean up the registry and remove anything that is using up your valuable resources, and decreasing the stability of your broadband connection.
