Overview of the Palm Pre 2

This Palm Pre 2 review is all about the latest smartphone produced by Palm.  It is the successor to the original Pre, and while it looks similar to this model, there have been some good additions to the range.  Its main distinguishing feature over other smartphones is that is has a full QWERTY keyboard, which slides open.

Whether you like this phone or not will likely depend on whether you find the keyboard easy to use.  The keys are well spaced but tiny, and are made of a soft plastic.  Palm has their proprietary operating system, the new webOS 2.0, installed on the phone.  The graphics are improved and the search function made more powerful.  The new processor is 1GHz, which has vastly improved responsiveness and performance.  Apps can now be opened quickly and menus display instantaneously.  Apps are represented as cards, grouped like a deck if several are open at the same time.  Similar apps are also stacked together.  The touchscreen is intuitive as well, with different swipes or gestures used to trigger specific options.

The battery has also been upgraded, meaning the Pre 2 can last much longer, over a day or two, before having to be charged again.  It has a 5-megapixel camera that includes an LED flash, which makes for great photos.  Although the screen is just over 3 inches, small compared to other smartphones, text is clear and easily read.

The small amount of apps available maybe a problem for some, but if you appreciate a real keyboard then there are some excellent Palm Pre 2 deals available.
